Reflecting on my time at RbD

As a part of my Marketing Degree at Aston University, it was mandatory for me to complete an industrial placement as my third year. After applying for the job, and completing several interview stages, I was delighted to be offered a position within the team at Research by Design as their first ever 12-month work placement study.

Initially, when beginning my work placement journey, I was apprehensive to be joining the team with no prior experience of market research, just simply an appetite to learn. However, it certainly didn’t take long to be welcomed and invited to feel at ease by my colleagues. The qualities of the team at RbD, fundamentally their approachability and supportiveness, definitely helped to make my time here even more enjoyable.

One of the most exciting aspects of working at RbD was the versatility of the company to adapt to different clients and their needs. This made the role more varied, providing the opportunity to work on a range of different projects across multiple sectors. This variability, along with the level of responsibility I was trusted with, enabled me to learn and enhance a number of transferable skills.

My role as a research assistant has enabled me to fully understand the market research cycle from initial brief to final findings, incorporating exposure into quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, monitoring studies, analysing and reporting on data in creative ways. As well as full exposure to all aspects of research, I have had the opportunity to contribute to the company’s marketing activities, gaining first-hand experience and consolidating my learning from my first two years at University. Over the year, I have acquired a tremendous amount of knowledge.
Picture1I cannot thank the team at RbD enough for all of their support and guidance over the last year, in addition to the vast amount of knowledge that they have shared with me. My experience has been both enjoyable and beneficial and I look forward to utilising the skills and training I have received in my final year at University and in future roles.
